PORTSMOUTH — The high school’s talented crop of students made beautiful music for a good cause Tuesday night.

The Portsmouth High School Music Department hosted its annual Scholarship Concert that featured performances from the Concert Chorus, Concert Band, Symphonic Band and Jazz Band.

The concert raised money for the Portsmouth Music Boosters’ various scholarships offered to graduating seniors.

The Joy Magliocco Music Scholarship is awarded to a student planning on majoring in music in college. It’s named after the active band student at Portsmouth who died in a fatal sledding accident in 1974.

The Raymond W. Ainsworth Scholarship, named after the retired former band director, goes to a band student. First preference is given to students who plan to major in music in college.

Another scholarship is awarded to a member of the chorus, with first preference given to students who plan to major in music in college.
