The Fall River Police Department broadcast a Be On the Look Out (BOLO) alert Tuesday afternoon for a gray 1998 Lincoln Continental operated by Cleveland Clay, 25, of Fall River.
Mr. Clay had allegedly rammed two Fall River police cruisers in an attempt to avoid capture. A short time later the Westport Police Department observed Mr. Clay’s vehicle and gave chase until losing sight of him. Mr. Clay eventually crashed the 1998 Continental on Route 195 at Route 24. While crossing the highway he was struck by a pickup truck and sustained a broken leg.
The operator of the pickup truck, who was unaware of the circumstances leading up to this point, offered to bring Mr. Clay to an area hospital. Another motorist observed Mr. Clay being struck by the pickup truck and reported the incident to state police.
Mass. State Police say that while the would-be good samaritan was driving Mr. Clay to the hospital, Trooper Paul Breault observed the gold Dodge Ram pickup truck and immediately pulled the vehicle over. Troopers conducted a felony stop and placed Mr. Clay under arrest. He was then transported to Rhode Island Hospital to be treated for his broken leg.
He will be booked and charged by the Fall River Police Department.
