A Massachusetts man accused of threatening Roger Williams University faculty members has been extradited to Bristol to face charges here after having been charged in his home state in February.
Kevin B. Pacheco, 37, of 209 Richard St., S. Dartmouth, Mass., was charged in Bristol with six counts of cyber stalking and one count of cyber harassment on June 2. He faces similar charges in Massachusetts and was brought to Bristol after making bail there.
Mr. Pacheco, a former law student at the university who was last on campus for the Fall 2012 semester, allegedly sent emails to Roger Williams faculty and staff members that “contained threatening language,” according to a university email sent to students, faculty and staff members in February.
Police determined there was a credible threat to the university and they immediately began to search for Mr. Pacheco. Dartmouth Police found Mr. Pacheco in his home and arrested him after an hours-long standoff during which officers had power to the home turned off.
“The email itself is in the hands of local law enforcement as part of their investigation,” the university’s email reads. “While we can’t share detailed information, please be assured that our Public Safety team immediately consulted with the local police officers on site and they jointly determined that there was no immediate threat to campus. “
