EAST PROVIDENCE — Family, friends and supporters of city resident Taylor Marie Marshall, an 18-year-old young woman who recently lost her fight for life at the Hasbro Children’s Hospitals ICU, are still planning a fundraiser in her memory Sunday, Dec. 2.

Taylor battled a degenerative lung disease called Cystic Fibrosis for all 18 years before succumbing to the illness two weeks ago. For the last year, she and her family have watched as this disease took over her body.

Taylor Marshall, surrounded by family and friends, is currently battling Cystic Fibrosis in Hasbro Children’s Hospital. A fundraiser is being planned to help offset her medical bills.

The fundraiser takes place at the Brightridge Hall, 59 Brightridge Ave., East Providence, from at 2 to 6  p.m. Tickets are $15 per person. Children under 12 are admitted free. The event includes food, entertainment and raffles.

Taylor was on a ventilator during her final few weeks of life because she didn’t have the lung capacity to breath on her own. And as a last resort to keep her alive, the medical team have placed her on a ECMO machine that filtered the carbon dioxide out of her blood due to her diminished lung function.

Taylor lived her life with a strength and resolve that is like no other. If you ever got the chance to meet Taylor, your life was likely not to be the same again. She had a uncanny ability to change the lives of the people around her without even trying.

If Taylor can make it home, her father and two brothers will need to make their dinning room into Taylor’s new bedroom and bathroom. Also, if a set of lungs becomes available for Taylor, her mother and father will have to stay in Boston where the procedure would take place until she is well enough to leave an come home.

In order to help lessen the financial burden that this disease can put on a family, the fundraiser has been planned.
