PROVIDENCE — As expected, Sen. Daniel DaPonte (D-Dist. 14 – East Providence) was reappointed Chairman of the Senate Committee on Finance Tuesday, Jan. 8, a position he has held since January 2009.

Richard W. Dionne Jr.
State Senator Daniel DaPonte, shown on election night last November with his children, Antonio and Sofia, was reappointed as Finance Committee chair earlier this week.
“I am honored and humbled at the opportunity to continue serving as Senate Finance Chairman,” Sen. DaPonte said in a press release. “There is so much more work to be done in order to get our state’s economy back on track. As I’ve done in the past, I look forward to making the difficult decisions necessary in order to put our city and state back on the path to prosperity. The time for sugar-coating our financial situation has long since passed.”
In addition to the Finance assignment, Sen. DaPonte will also join the Senate Committee on Education as a member and continue to serve on the Senate Committee on Rules.
Regarding his appointment to the Education Committee, he said, “I couldn’t be more excited and ready to work hard to improve the quality of education in our state. Along with improving the economy, this is a top priority for me in the coming session. As the father of two young children, the issue really hits home for me.”
Sen. DaPonte can be reached by phone at 401-276-5584 (Office), 401-222-4753 (Fax) or 401-864-4234 (Home); by mail at Room 211, Rhode Island State House, Providence, R.I., 02903 or by email at sen-daponte@rilin.state.ri.us.
