Silver Spring students held up pinwheels twirling in the air while parading around the school in the name of peace.

A plethora of pinwheels twirled in the air as Silver Spring students paraded around the school to send out a message of peace to the community. The project is called, Pinwheels for Peace, their aim is to “help students make a public visual statement about their feelings about war, peace, tolerance, cooperation, harmony, unity and to awaken the public and let them know what the next generation is thinking,” said a statement on the Pinwheels for Peace website. Silver Spring students made and decorated the paper pinwheels and talked about peace throughout the week. On parade day students painted their faces with peace signs in preparation for their march on Friday, Sept. 21, an international day of peace.
