The EPPD is sponsoring a pasta dinner fundraiser for injured fellow officer Greg Tainsh on Saturday, Oct. 20, at the St. Francis Xavier Church auditorium located at 81 No. Carpenter St. The event begins at 7 p.m. Tickets are $20 per person. Children eat free.
Officer Tainsh, a member of the EPPD Traffic Control Unit at the time, had his leg severely injured when the motorcycle he was riding was hit by a car on April 6 of this year. The crash caused significant damage to his right knee and leg, confining him to a wheel chair for three months. His road to recovery has and will be extensive and all proceeds from the event will go directly to him and his family. Officer Tainsh is a married father of two toddlers.
“He’s going through another round of rehab, and he could be due for more surgery,” EPPD Lieutenant Raymond Blinn said of Officer Tainsh. “He’s still several months away from getting back on the job.”
It remains to be determined if Officer Tainsh can recovery fully enough from the injuries he suffered to make a return as a patrolman in the field. Besides his ailments, Officer Tainsh’s situation is even more difficult due to the fact that the motorist who caused the accident was uninsured, meaning he and his family have had to pick up much of his additional medical costs beyond those covered by his worked-based coverage.
“He’s got a family and two young kids,” said EPPD Sergeant Paul Rodrigues, who also noted the efforts of EPPD Sergeant Mike Grant is managing the fundraiser. “And with the holidays coming up, we want to make sure they have everything they need.”
The fundraiser includes a pasta dinner and a large raffle, including an extended Florida vacation, with entertainment provided by the legendary James Montgomery Blues band. Please come for some good food and music, while helping out Officer Tainsh and his family.
