EAST PROVIDENCE — Jasper Williams, the person of interest being sought by East Providence Police in the stabbing of two city residents, has been taken into custody, Detective Captain Richard Frazier announced Friday morning, Dec. 7.
Mr. Williams, whose last known residence was Providence, is being held after allegedly wielding a weapon that caused serious injuries to both Jared and Jacob Burrows during an altercationin early hours of Sunday, Nov. 25.
Mr. Williams, with his attorney, turned himself into East Providence Police Friday. He has been charged with two counts of assault with a deadly weapon-knife. He was being held at the EPPD headquarters and was expected to be arraigned on the stated charges later Friday in Sixth District Court.
Capt. Frazier said a dialogue between investigators, including EPPD Detective Jeffrey Mace, Mr. Williams and his legal representative was opened over the last week.
“We’ve been negotiating with his attorney to turn himself in. There’s been a back-and-forth, working on his surrender. Det. Mace and his attorney finally worked it out and (Mr. Williams) came in today,” Capt. Frazier explained Friday morning.
Capt. Frazier said both Burrows brothers, who were receiving treatment at Rhode Island Hospital, have been released. Jacob Burrows was able to be interviewed by police just after the incident. Jared Burrows, suffering from the more serious of the wounds received in the stabbing, wasn’t able to talk with investigators. Capt. Frazier wasn’t sure if he had been interviewed to date.
