EAST PROVIDENCE — East Providence Police Animal Control has charged Derrick Remy with providing false information to an officer and is also seeking fees for services rendered for an incident involving his pet.
Mr. Remy, 41, dropped off what he claimed was a stray dog he had found near his place of business in East Providence on 275 Bullocks Point Ave. to the Providence Animal Rescue League. Because it has jurisdiction over the area, the EPPAC was notified by the League. The EPPAC next started a procedural investigation into the matter, according to Officer Will Muggle.Officer Evan Barlow was responsible for the case, eventually discovering some discrepancies in the details Mr. Remy provided with some of the evidence. Officer Barlow’s investigation included finding pictures of Mr. Remy with a similar-looking dog on social media sites.
Mr. Remy, who has a Swansea, Mass. mailing address and appears to have roots in Fall River according to Officer Muggle, later admitted to owning what he said was a Jack Russell Terrier mix since it was a puppy. He claimed to have owned the dog for some 12 years. He recently found out the dog, which Officer Muggle said was more likely a Dachshund/Hound mix, was had cancer and decided to leave it with authorities rather than caring for it.
Officer Muggle said the dog did have several lumps and open sores. The dog was later transported to the Rhode Island Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, where it was put to sleep humanely, Officer Muggle said.Add to favorites
