East Providence parking ban takes effect Thursday afternoon

EAST PROVIDENCE — In anticipation of a winter storm striking the area, the East Providence Police Department has issued a parking ban to take effect at 3 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 2.

The ban will remain in effect until further notice. The National Weather Service is predicting upwards of a foot of snow to fall in and around East Providence over the next 24 hours.

The official NWS forecast for the next two days is as follows…

Thursday: Snow. Areas of blowing snow. Visibility one quarter mile or less at times. Additional snow accumulation of 4 to 6 inches. Cooler with lows around 8 above. North winds 15 to 20 mph with gusts up to 45 mph. Chance of snow near 100 percent.

Friday: Mostly cloudy. Snow in the morning. Areas of blowing snow in the morning with visibility one quarter mile or less at times. Total snow accumulation of 8 to 12 inches. Colder with highs around 13. North winds 15 to 20 mph. Gusts up to 45 mph… Decreasing to 30 mph in the afternoon. Chance of snow 80 percent.
