KISSIMMEE, FLA. — Fresh off top performances locally, an East Providence Junior Townies cheerleading team also offered up a superb effort last weekend while competing against opposition from around the country.
The Junior Townies’ Division 15 spirit squad placed third in its grouping Sunday, Dec. 15, at the American Youth Football National Championship Competition at the Silver Spurs Arena in Kissimmee, Fla. The event included representative from nine regions: Desert Pacific, Mountain Northwest, Midwest, Southwest, Big East, Atlantic, New England, Central Midwest and Southeast.
It was the first time in the Junior Townies’ history that a cheerleading squad represented the organization at nationals. The 15-year-old division team previously won both the state and New England competitions to advance to Florida. The Division 15 team took first place at regional finals in Hartford, Conn., at the XL Center on Saturday, Nov. 23.
The Division 15 team, comprised of girls ages 13-to-15, included Allison Abbott, Simone Alves, Kelly Corbeil, Veronica Demedeiros, Victoria Galvao, Hailey Hosburgh, Julia Lothrop, Savannah Magnone, Logan Maxwell, Jaylee Miller, Kayla Miller, JoEllyn Pari, Madison St. Onge and Katlin Vanner. Chris Ricci is the head coach of the team, assisted by Chantel Ricci, Lisa Alves and Taylor Cote and also aided by student demonstrators Isabella Torres and Adriana Souza.Add to favorites
