East Providence High School honors the late Barron during tree planting ceremony

EAST PROVIDENCE — A memorial tree dedication ceremony at East Providence High School in the honor of recently deceased James Barron, postponed due to scheduling conflicts, is now set for Friday, June 20, at 11 a.m. on the grounds near the teachers’ parking lot.

Mr. Barron, who passed away earlier in 2014, was part of the EPHS guidance department for well over 20 years. The tree is being planted by the student organization, the Townie Volunteer Corps. Any funds raised by the Townie Volunteer Corps remaining after the purchase of the tree will go towards establishing a scholarship in Mr. Barron’s name.

Among those expected to speak during the ceremony include EPHS guidance department chairman Trish Almquist, former student Hayley Bourgault, EPHS principal Janet Sheehan, Schools Superintendent Kim Mercer, EPHS teacher and State Representative Gregg Amore and Townie Volunteer Corps president Hannah Gomez.. The public is also welcome to attend.
