East Providence High School holds annual Art Show exhibition


EAST PROVIDENCE — With hundreds of works on display, East Providence High School conducted its annual student Art Show Thursday evening, May 23.

The display is non-competitive. The work is produced by a variety of classes (Art I, Art II,  Drawing and Painting (advanced) and Ceramics and Sculpture (advanced) and encapsulates Grades 9 to 12 at the high school.

All EPHS students who take art at the high school are potential artists for the show. Work is chosen by the five EPHS Art Department teachers for display. There is two dimensional work (drawing/painting) and three dimensional work (sculpture and ceramics). Just over 400 were available for viewing by the public Thursday.

Some of the work on display Thursday has been entered into local juried shows, one of which one earned a cash prize Central Congregational Juried Student Work exhibition. Jacob Ottone’s work entitles “DiChiricho” was an inspired two-point perspective drawing and earned an honorable mention/cash prize at the exhibition in April.

In addition, Yoxanderi Mateo’s work, “Body” of two dimensional pieces including drawings and collage received a Gold Key for Scholastic Award Competition in January, the highest honor offered at the competition. It also received Fourth Place Scholarship Award at the Wickford Art Association for a body of work. The Rhode Island Art Education Association judged the show.
