East Bay Newspapers was recently named Business of the Year by the East Bay Chamber of Commerce during a banquet Oct. 17 at Jacky’s Galaxie in Bristol.

East Bay Newspapers is one of the oldest businesses in the East Bay. Its flagship paper, the Bristol Phoenix, has been published without interruption for 176 years, since its first issue in 1837.

Its youngest newspaper, the Portsmouth Times, launched last spring and has grown readership 400-percent in just six months.

The company employs 31 people, publishing 7 newspapers: the East Providence Post, Barrington Times, Warren Times-Gazette, Bristol Phoenix, Portsmouth Times, Sakonnet Times and Westport Shorelines, which are seen by more than 50,000 people weekly. Hundreds more read its e-editions online.

Earlier this year, East Bay Newspapers merged with another local business, Kirsten DiChiappari and The Chatter Group. Now the One Bradford design team (a division of East Bay Newspapers) is designing logos, signs and business cards; creating marketing brochures; building and launching websites; providing social media consulting; and developing full marketing plans for small businesses in the East Bay.
