The foundation aspires to help protect and save threatened historic buildings, sites and open spaces in Warren through private donations, grants and other funding sources. One of the first goals is to look into the future of the old Methodist Church on Church Street, which is undergoing a structural assessment by a Newport engineering firm hired by the new group.
Going forward, one of the foundation’s main sources of income will be fund-raisers; the next, a “Hunter’s Moon” dinner and horse and buggy tour of historic sites in town, is set for Saturday, Oct. 19. The tour starts and finishes at the Wheaton House, 90 Union St., and features coctails, hors do’euvres, the tour and a harvest and wild game dinner prepared by Joe Simone of Sunnyside fame.
