Barrington resident Tad Segal will be one of the presenters at the second Common Core forum tonight in Barrington.

A group of people, including a member of the Barrington School Committee and a state representative, will hold its own presentation on the Common Core State Standards just a few feet away from the Rhode Island Department of Education forum on the same subject.

The presentation, set for 8:30 p.m. in the Barrington High School cafeteria, will directly follow the 7 p.m. RIDE event which will be held in the high school auditorium.

Set to speak at the 8:30 presentation is Scott Fuller, a member of the school committee who has been critical of the Common Core, Rep. Greg Amore who recently sponsored legislation to delay the implementation of the PARCC testing, and Tad Segal, a Barrington parent and organizer of www.StopCommonCoreRI.org.

An electronic announcement for the event offered an explanation of what will be included at the later presentation: “Research, facts and information that you won’t get from RIDE — but that every Barrington parent should know. Question & Answer Session. Strictly non-partisan and non-ideological.”

Organizers of the 8:30 p.m. event recommended people attend both presentations.

“As Barrington parents, educators, local elected officials and citizens with concerns and reservations about the Common Core, we think it’s critically important to provide everyone with fact-based information and research about the Common Core State Standards and related high-stakes PARCC testing that we simply won’t get from the RIDE presentation,” the release stated.

Susan Giordano, Emily Conner and Amy Segal, all Barrington residents who have children in local public schools, will also speak at the event.
