The Director of Pupil Personnel, a position held on a temporary basis recently by Cheryl Ursillo, oversees the School Department’s Special Education division. When asked recently about the urgency and necessity of having a permanent person in the role, Schools Superintendent Kim Mercer said “it is very important.”

While being asked to approve the hire, the Commission is also being requested to adjust the salary of Director of Education Jill Motta. Mrs. Motta was hired at a lower than expected rate of compensation two months ago. Mrs. Mercer and City Human Resources Director Kathleen Waterbury are seeking the Commission’s approval to use the offset to boost the salary of the new Director of Pupil Personnel.

Other school matters on Thursday’s Commission docket include a request to post and fill the position of principal at the Agnes Hennessey Elementary School. Current principal David Britto has requested a leave of absence. Similarly, a request to post and fill the Response to Intervention Coordinator position in the School Department will be presented to the Commission.

Ms. Waterbury and City Manager Peter Graczykowski also have four personnel requests of the Commission on the city side.

The state overseers will review requests to hire 12 probationary firefighters; to appoint and fill a Jr. Accountant position in the Finance Department and to certify the eligibility list; to appoint and fill Fire Chief’s Aide position and to certify the eligibility list; to post the Building Inspection Clerk position

The June 27 Budget Commission meeting begins at 3 p.m. in Room 306 of City Hall.
