SAKONNET AREA — Comments on proposed tolls for the new Sakonnet River Bridge must be submitted by Jan. 18, says the state Department of Transportation.

Anyone wishing to submit a letter to the Rhode Island Department of Transportation can send it by e-mail to customerservice@dot.ri.gov, or by mail to Customer Service, Rhode Island Department of Transportation Office of Public Affairs, 2 Capitol Hill #119, Providence, RI 02903.

RIDOT says it will submit public comment along with toll impact studies to the Federal Highway Administration by the end of January. That timetable would, if the plan its approved, enable tolls to be put into place by late next summer.

Tiverton-based STOP, a group formed to fight tolls, will send personal letters that it has received to the DOT as well.

Anyone wishing to send a letter via STOP can send it to TivertonSTOP@gmail.com or drop it off at the Tiverton Town Hall.
