Alfred’s Antiques coming to Warren’s Jade Tree

Years ago, it was the Hope Creamery.  Then came the Jade Tree. Next? Alfred’s Antiques.
Bristol resident Alfred Brazil will be the next tenant at the old Jade Tree at 480 Main St., after the Warren Town Council on Tuesday night approved a request by property owner Ed Cox to re-zone the property to village business. The re-zone will allow him to rent out the lower floor to the antiques business, and he plans to put in a second floor with pitched roof and three apartments. The council gave Mr. Cox its unanimous blessing.
Mr. Brazil has antiques stores in Bristol and Barrington, and he told the council Tuesday that he’ll close his Barrington location to accommodate the move to Warren.
“I think it’s a better location for me,” he said.
As for Mr. Cox, he bought the building with a mind toward his son, who has a culinary arts degree and currently works as a chef in Providence. The original plan was to open up a restaurant on the first floor, but the economy has forced he and his son to re-think those plans, at least for the time being.
“Long-term I’d like to retain that option,” he said. “When I’m not here I’d like to provide an opportunity for my son.
