Although the transaction took place August 14, life goes on as usual at the 1320 Main Road facility, Dr. Rix said Thursday.
“There have been no changes in staff, everything is the same as it has been … Dr. Condon and I will remain as employees for at least two years to assure an orderly transition … and I will probably stay quite a while longer than that,” he said.
VetCor owns 96 animal hospitals across the country — “I believe we were the 95th,” Dr. Rix said. “The advantage is really an economy of scale … Dr. Condon and I retain ownership of the building,” while VetCor now owns the veterinary practice.
There was no public announcement of the sale but it did appear on the Little Compton Town Council agenda last Thursday.
Dr. Rix and Dr. Condon wrote to Little Compton to assure the town that Sakonnet Veterinary Hospital will continue to serve as the town’s animal shelter, taking in any stray dogs or cats, a service the hospital also provides to Tiverton.
“The contract that we have arranged with the town will remain in effect with no change in the terms or conditions” or the “quality of services.”
Dr. Rix and Dr. Condon have owned and operated Sakonnet Veterinary Hospital for 41 years.
“We enjoy the relationship we have established with the town and look forward to the new chapter in our lives,” the two wrote to Little Compton.
