Building is booming in Warren
Diane Soares, who runs the front desk in building inspector William Nash’s office, has had a busy few months. Permits are up — way up, she said.
“It’s been very busy,” Ms. Soares said.
For the month of October, Mr. Nash approved 50 building permits, almost double the amount (26) approved in October 2012. It hasn’t been an anomaly, either; recent months have seen more permits issued than were last year. Other permits — mechanical, electrical and plumbing — are up too.
Mr. Nash said recently that the increased building activity has been noticeable — “a good sign,” he said, of improving conditions.
Though many of the recent permits have been for mundane things like re-roofs and interior renovations, at least one other category has also seen a big jump: The installation of generators.
Ms. Soares said she’s seen quite a few, likely from folks who lost power during last winter’s blizzard, and don’t want to go through it again.
“I had it done,” she said.
