About a dozen members of Bristol’s police and fire departments were joined by town administrator Tony Teixeira to celebrate St. Baldrick’s Day on Thursday night. The event, sponsored by the St. Baldrick’s Foundation is a fund-raising activity where donors pledge money to help fund research for childhood cancer. In return, participants pledge to become ‘baldees’.
Nanci Adams and Cheryl Bayuk, owners of Pure Salon on Hope Street in Bristol were among several hair stylists on hand to greet and shear the locks off those willing to part with their parts and buzz off their bangs.
After learning of Bristol’s goal – $1,000 for the fire department and $1,000 from the police department – town administrator Tony Teixeira offered to shave his head if the group’s total reached $3,000. The Bristol fire department and members of the Bristol police department, aka Bristol’s Baldest, raised a combined total of $12,315.
