Bristol residents who would like to experience what it’s like to be a police officer in town are invited to enroll in the Bristol police department’s citizen’s police academy. The 10 week program is designed to provide citizens of Bristol a better understanding of the mission and operations of the Bristol police department.
Each week, participants will experience the various operations that take place in local law enforcement, including the department structure, patrol procedures, dispatch operations, narcotics, search warrants, crime scene investigation, use of force, domestic violence, traffic enforcement, D.U.I. investigation, duties of the school resource officer, juvenile crime and the court system.
Classes will meet on Tuesdays from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. for 10 weeks, beginning on March 5. Applications must be returned to the Bristol Police Department by Friday, 1 March 2013. Personal identification will be requested upon return of application. Those who attend 80 percent of the scheduled sessions will receive a certificate of completion.
