Two Bristol residents and one Warren resident were awarded $1,000 scholarships each from the newly established Gertrude G. Campanella Scholarship Fund, established at Saint Elizabeth Manor.

The fund, established by an anonymous donation in honor of Manor resident Gertrude Campanella, will present awards annually to a Saint Elizabeth Manor staff member looking to advance their career in patient care through education.
This year’s awardees are: Nathan Andrade of Bristol, studying to become an XRAY technician; Jennifer Correia of Warren, studying to become a registered nurse; and Meghan Jordan of Bristol, studying to become an occupational therapy assistant.
Gertrude Campanella, 101, said she believes in giving back and supporting those around her. She has been a resident of Saint Elizabeth Manor in Bristol since 2009, and during her years residing at The Manor she has always taken great interest in those around her.

Ms. Campanella said she enjoys talking with staff about their interests and goals, and encourages continuing education as a way to attain those goals and achieve professional advancement.

“I always tried to help others, not always financially,” she said. “I would do what I could to help in different ways. I was surrounded by family that would strive for a good education and work hard.”

The scholarship fund reflects Ms. Campanella’s desire to provide opportunities for employees seeking to advance their careers through education.
