With the retirement of Bristol Warren Regional School District Superintendent Melinda Thies, the district is now under new management, after the School Committee promoted former Assistant Superintendent Mario Andrade to replace her.
Now Mr. Andrade has been replaced. It was recently announced that Diane Sanna of Tiverton will take over as second-in-command for the schools.
Ms. Sanna was one of 19 candidates to apply for the vacancy that was posted on the School Spring website, an educational job posting service. With applicants as far away as Michigan interested in the spot, a nine-person search and interview team reviewed each applicant and narrowed the field to seven hopefuls who were interviewed. From that group, three were given further consideration, with Ms. Fanna impressing the team with what she can bring to the Bristol Warren District.
“She’s well respected across the educational community,” Mr. Andrade said.
Ms. Sanna has worked in the Tiverton School District for the past 12 years as that district’s curriculum director.
“She’s been doing the work for a number of years,” Mr. Andrade said. “I respect her. She’s second to none.”
Mr. Andrade said she will bring “a strong STEM background” to the learning community, an understanding that he expects will drive the district’s science, technology, engineering and math initiatives through its curriculum.
Ms. Sanna is currently dividing her time between the Tiverton district and Bristol Warren while she transitions into her new role full time within the next week. The new assistant superintendent will make $114,000 plus benefits.
