Bristol motorcyclist hurt in collision with car

bristol PD carA motorcyclist suffered serious injury on Friday, June 21, a result of a motorcycle/car collision on Metacom Avenue.

According to police, David Bravo, 27, of 1086 Hope St. was riding his 1989 Honda motorcycle south on Metacom Avenue shortly before 9 a.m. At the same time, Jennifer Astrella, 51, of 1051 Hope St. was driving her 2000 Mercury Sable east on Mt. Hope Ave.
Witnesses and Ms. Astrella said that the Mercury stopped at the stop sign and before attempting to make a left hand turn onto Metacom Avenue. As the vehicle crossed into the southbound lane, the motorcycle struck the left front portion of the car sending Mr. Bravo over the handlebars and into the windshield of the car, before landing in the street.

Mr. Bravo was wearing a helmet, according to police, but witnesses said that it appeared that he suffered broken limbs in the mishap. Rescue crews responded immediately and accident recreation specialists remained on scene taking measurement and gathering information that would help in determining how the accident occurred. Mr. Bravo was transported to the hospital for his injuries.

Mr. Bravo remains in the hospital where he is being treated for multiple injuries.

    Thank God he was wearing a helmet. A great tragedy was averted.

    Please, please auto drivers be very aware of motorcycles driving around during these warm days. Motorcyclists do not have the same protection as a automobile driver.

    If you see a cyclist driving near you please give him/her a wide birth. Give the cyclist as much space as you can.

    PLEASE! You won’t be sorry.
