PORTSMOUTH — The Portsmouth Arts Guild (PAG) hosted its first-ever live music performance Sunday as it welcomed Marcus Santos’ AfroBrazil, a Brazilian percussion ensemble.

Mr. Santos, wearing a green-and-yellow wig and slot glasses, led the Boston-based group in replicating the sounds and energy inspired by his hometown of Bahia, Brazil. Mr. Santos has performed worldwide in festivals from Japan to the United States.

The show combined traditional Brazilian grooves such as samba and axé with funk, rock, jazz and hip-hop.

Gabby Wallace displayed some samba dance moves and got most of the audience members to get up and follow some simple steps.

The performance was sponsored in part by Rhode Island State Council on the Arts.
