For the second time in three weeks, Borrelli’s Bakery on Washington Road was victimized, this time by a burglar who gained entrance into the business overnight Thursday, making off with an undetermined amount of cash.

Police were on the scene at the corner of Washington Road and Bay Spring Avenue where the business has operated for about a year. Early Friday morning on Nov. 30, a delivery person who has key access entered the building to discover that the cash register had been displaced from the counter. The money kept inside the register was gone, as well as additional cash from a hidden cash box elsewhere in the store.

The delivery person contacted the business owner and police to alert them of the crime. At approximately 8:30 a.m. on Friday, Barrington police detectives were on scene taking photographs and collecting any evidence left by the burglar.

Lieutenant Detective Dino DeCrescenzo said that video tapes from the security cameras set up inside the store would be reviewed, giving them a better idea of how entry was gained. It is believed that the break-in occurred around 10 p.m. on Thursday, but police hope that the video will provide better details, and perhaps the identity, of those involved.

A glass door on the side of the bakery was shattered three weeks ago, either by vandals or as a result of an attempted break in. The yellow caution tape was still affixed to the door as police returned to investigate the second incident.

Borrelli’s staff opened the bakery as usual on Friday, preparing orders and serving customers as police surveyed the scene.
