A public hearing will take place in the boardroom of the Bristol County Water Authority, 450 Child St., in Warren, at 6 tonight. The hearing is scheduled to discussed a proposed 4 percent rate increase for the utility’s upcoming operating budget.
BCWA’s board of directors proposed the increase in December to fund needed water distribution repairs and replacement, and to fund mandated reserves.
The operations and maintenance budget will increase by less than .5 percent. This will result in an increase of the average residential water bill from $504.15 to $524.32 per year, or .39 cents per week.
If approved, the increase will take effect March 1, 2014.
