A group of benefactors has agreed to donate $250,000 to the Bayside YMCA’s on-going capital campaign.

There’s just one catch – The community has to match it.

Quickly.

Mr. Berson said the community must meet the $250,000 mark by the beginning of May for the benefactors to match it. Donations that count toward the effort must be $2,500 or more and can be paid off in installments.

Mr. Berson said he’s in awe of the community’s generosity to the YMCA and because of that, he has plenty of confidence in the fund-raiser’s success.

“However we get there, we will get there and I’m extremely confident we will,” he said.

State Sen. David Bates (R-Dist. 32, Riverside, Barrington, Bristol) also brought some good news – He’s requested a legislative grant to assist the project. Sen. Bates didn’t have a number for his request but said he is looking to get as much as possible.

Mr. Berson said the YMCA will keep the community abreast of the fund-raiser’s progress with regular updates.

The current construction on West Street is part of a two-phase plan to upgrade and improve the Bayside Family YMCA, a facility that was built more than five decades ago.

The new building will include an eight-lane pool, family locker rooms, a childcare center, a new entryway, sitting areas and more.

Bayside YMCA Executive Director said the project is on time and on budget. He said work is about 56 percent complete and construction is expected to wrap up in August, slightly ahead of schedule.
