Barrrington High beats East Providence in boys’ basketball

BARRINGTON — Host Barrington High School broke out to a double-digit lead by halftime and maintained its edge the rest of the way as the Eagles defeated visiting East Providence, 55-48, in a non-league boys’ basketball contest Friday, Dec. 7.

The Eagles built a 30-20 lead by intermission and managed to keep the Townies at bay in the second half despite being outscored by three points. Jesse Brown led Barrington with a game-high 18 points. Nick Raymond scored 10 and grabbed eight rebounds. Kevin Mannix chipped in eight. John Vaughn led East Providence with 17 points. Edwin Sam added 10. Charlie Brown had seven.

Both teams saw their records move to 1-1. The Eagles, of Division II, were coming off a 74-69 loss to D-I Mt. Pleasant in their Injury Fund game. The Townies, of D-I, defeated D-II Tiverton, 53-37, in their Injury Fund opener.

Barrington is right back in action Saturday night, Dec. 8, in Worcester, Mass., for a non-league game against Holy Name at 6 o’clock. The Eagles open their regular season league slate Wednesday, Dec. 12, at home for Portsmouth at 7 o’clock. East Providence begins Division I league play Tuesday night, Dec. 11, on the road in North Kingstown also at 7 p.m.
