Sowams School students rehearse for an upcoming performance of “The Musical Adventures of Flat Stanley, Jr.”

Students at Sowams School will perform “The Musical Adventures of Flat Stanley Jr.” on Friday and Saturday nights. The shows are produced by Arts Alive!, a nonprofit that provides performing arts opportunities to students in Barrington Public Schools.
The play, based on the award-winning children’s book “Flat Stanley” written by Jeff Brown and illustrated by Scott Nash, tells the story of a normal boy, Stanley Lambchop, who “dreams of doing something amazing, something the world has never seen before.”
After getting flattened by a bulletin board as he slept, he makes the most of his slimmer figure and puts himself into an envelop and travels the world as a “human letter.”
Pamela Morgan, the co-founder of Arts Alive! and director of the show, said the play incorporates a Flat Stanley project that Sowams second-graders are working on, “So, many students are familiar with the story and are excited to, literal, bring it to three dimensional life.”
Nearly 60 students are involved in the production, which includes musical numbers “Meet the Lambchops,” “My Child is Flat,” “Travelin’ Through the Mail,” “Talent,” and “Surfin’ the Mail.”
