A Barrington grandmother is looking for individuals to help deliver a gun control message to Rep. David Cicilline on March 12.
Barrington resident Adele Carlson started volunteering with the Brady Campaign shortly after the December tragedy in Newtown, Conn. The Brady Campaign is a national gun control advocacy group that supports criminal background checks for all gun sales and a ban on assault-style weapons, among other initiatives.
Ms. Carlson, a grandmother of three, said the shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School spurred her to join the group.
“It was terribly shocking. Like everybody else, it was a wake up call for this country,” she said. “Unfortunately it took that horrific incident to spur action. Sometimes that’s what it takes.”
Ms. Carlson said she contacted Rep. Cicilline in February to set up a meeting. She is looking for anyone else interested in gun control to join her.
Ms. Carlson will be joined by the state chapter of One Million Moms for Gun Control.
