A 14-year-old Barrington boy is facing a larceny charge after he allegedly stole $351 from the school store at the high school, but says he was just trying to help his mom.
After he was confronted about the situation, the local teenager told a school official that he had been taking the money and giving it to his mother who had recently lost her job. Officials checked out the boy’s story, which turned out to be truthful.
The boy said he had told his mother he had been earning the money by doing odd jobs for neighbors.
His case will be referred to the town’s juvenile hearing board, and he will have to pay restitution to the school store.
