A witness statement from a 14-year-old Barrington girl led to the arrest of 18-year-old Mitchell Jacques, of 271 Lincoln Ave., in Barrington, on Tuesday, Sept. 24.

According to police, the girl was filling out a witness statement after she told officers that Mr. Jacques was harassing her and spreading lies about her. In the statement, she reportedly wrote that Mr. Jacques also forced her to perform a sex act on him earlier this year.

Police further investigated the claim and at 4:48 p.m. on Sept. 24, officers arrested Mr. Jacques on a warrant. He is charged with disorderly conduct (offensive words at another) and first degree sexual assault.

The victim and her mother had stopped by the police station recently to file a complaint about Mr. Jacques, stating that in addition to saying crude things about her, he had also tried to sell her marijuana.

On Tuesday Sept. 24, officers transported Mr. Jacques to the Rhode Island Training School. He was reportedly arraigned in Family Court on Monday, Sept. 29.
