Barrington teen facing DUI, possession charges

An alleged erratic driver was stopped and arrested by police on the Wampanoag Trail at 1:35 a.m. on Sunday, Aug. 10, after an officer observed the vehicle drift over the white line and into the breakdown lane.

According to police, a 17 year-old Barrington boy was driving the car when it crossed over the line and back onto the roadway several times before police stopped the vehicle.

When police approached the vehicle, the odor of alcohol was  present and the officer saw a plastic water bottle that contained a red liquid. The liquid allegedly field tested positive for alcohol and the driver reportedly failed a field sobriety test.

Police said they also found that the boy was in possession of marijuana. He was charged with driving under the influence of drugs/alcohol-first offense; possession of an alcoholic beverage by an underage person; and possession of marijuana. He was also cited for laned roadway violations; use of breakdown lane for travel; and operating a motor vehicle without evidence of insurance.

While the boy awaited release to his mother, he was observed punching the cement wall and spitting on the floor.
