Patrick “Buzz” Guida will retain his seat on the Barrington School Committee. Fellow Republican Chris Ramsden, an incumbent, failed to garner the needed votes for a second term.

Longtime incumbent Patrick “Buzz” Guida will be serving another four years on the Barrington School Committee, joined by fellow incumbent Robert Shea Jr. and newcomer Paula Dominguez. Mr. Guida is a Republican, while Mr. Shea and Ms. Dominguez are Democrats.

Republican Chris Ramsden finished fourth in the three-person race, slightly ahead of his wife, Meg, also a Republican.

With two seats going to the Democrats, they hold a majority on that board. They join fellow Democrat Kate Brody and Republican Scott Fuller.

Mr. Guida, who was at the American Legion building on Legion Way with other Republicans Tuesday night, said he was surprised by the vote totals.

“In my view, I thought Chris Ramsden, Meg Ramsden and Bob Shea were going to be neck and neck for the third spot,” Mr. Guida said.

Paula Dominguez said she was “thrilled” and “delighted” to be elected. Ms. Dominguez said she is looking forward to working on important issues facing the district, such as the strategic plan, the new teachers’ contract and the new common core curriculum, among others.

Bob Shea said it felt great to be re-elected. When he was first elected four years ago, Mr. Shea said two of his major concerns were health and wellness issues and ensuring the needs of local students were met. Mr. Shea said he believes his re-election is a sign local voters also view the issues as important. He feels voters valued his approach to the issue.
