Barrington police: Bristol man’s throwing knives are illegal

What started as a single car accident on Thursday afternoon, Feb. 27, ended as an arrest for an illegal weapons charge.

At about 3 p.m., police responded to the area of County Road and Albert Avenue for car vs. telephone pole accident. Officers spoke to 23-year-old Bristol resident Zachary Drew Leonard, who was driving the 2005 Mercury at the time of the accident. Police also noticed on Mr. Leonard’s belt a lock-blade, double-edged throwing knife.

Officers took a closer look at the knife and realized that it exceeded the three-inch legal limit. Police said Mr. Leonard had three of the knives in his possession; Mr. Leonard said he purchased the throwing knives in New Hampshire.

Police charged the Bristol man with possession of weapons other than firearms.
