Deanna Russo has created a product that makes life a little easier for maids of honor.
The 1986 Barrington High School graduate designed the “BowK,” a product that helps maids of honor easily construct ribbon bouquets that a bride can carry at a wedding rehearsal.
Ms. Russo said she created the product a few years ago after she was the maid of honor at her best friend’s wedding.
“Per the tradition, I had been tasked with creating an arrangement of bows on a paper plate,” Ms. Russo wrote in an e-mail. “I am not a particularly crafty person and I quickly became frustrated with the process. The paper plate would rip, the bows would droop, and I was stressed trying to create a thing of beauty for my friend to carry during her wedding rehearsal. That is where the idea for the BowK originated.”
Ms. Russo later left her sales job and started her own company. She recently learned of the Walmart Get On The Shelf contest, and submitted a video entry. The product was selected and has advanced past the first round.
“For the next phase of the contest, finalists selected will have their stories featured in an original web series. Winners could quickly become available on Walmart.com. Grand champions will win marketing support,” she wrote.
