Two Barrington girls may have set out to do a good deed, but according to police, they took a wrong step along the way.

A Barrington resident called police on Monday, Feb. 24 and reported that his daughter had gone around town with her friend soliciting money. The girls reportedly told people that they were going to donate the money to a homeless shelter.

But that never happened.

Instead, police said, the girls kept some of the money. Once the parents of one of the girls discovered what had happened, they called police. An officer responded to the residence and spoke to the parties involved.

The parents have since grounded their daughter; police did not charge anyone.

It was also reported that the two girls are no longer speaking to each other.
