A Martin Avenue resident’s dog reportedly attacked two men on a MEGA refuse truck on Friday morning, biting one of the workers in his right calf.

According to police, the dog, a white Wheaton terrier named Butter got away from its owner and chased after the garbage collector, a 24-year-old Providence resident.

Before the owner could track down the dog, it bit the worker’s leg, causing a puncture wound. The driver of the truck told police he left the cab to try and help the other worker when the dog turned and went after him.

Police later contacted the dog’s owner; an officer transported Butter to the East Providence Animal Shelter for a 10-day quarantine. The dog is up-to-date on its shots.

This is the second time Butter has attacked someone. According to police, the dog went after a mail carrier in July 2010.

Police said Butter could face a vicious dog hearing in the near future.
