Numerous Barrington residents are expected to lose power over the next couple of days but local dispatchers do not know when the lights will be back on.

Police Chief John LaCross said residents are asked not to call dispatch with inquiries about when power restoration during this week’s storm. The chief said residents should call for assistance if needed as well as downed power lines and tree limbs though public safety offiicals are not the ones to field calls about electricity.

“We received hundreds of calls last year about when power is coming back on and truthfully we do not know,” Chief LaCross said.

The chief also said National Grid officials are on standby to work with DPW crews towards getting power back on as quickly as possible.

Chief LaCross asked motorists to stay off the roads to allow clearing. An additional dispatcher is being brought in during the storm and tonight’s 4 to 12 p.m. shift is epxected to have twice as many officers as a normal night.

Primrose Hill School has been open as a shelter and Chief LaCross reitirated a CodeRed messge from Town Manager Peter DeAngelis sent Sunday evening. Those living in low-lying and coastal areas are advised to find somewhere else to stay during the storm.

Chief LaCross said police will assist with evacuation efforts when possible, though those who are planning to leave should do so before the storm hits full stride this afternoon.
