Barrington Democratic Town Committee endorsed Gina Raimondo for governor at a meeting on Wednesday night, April 16.
After hearing from each of the candidates in the Democratic primary, the committee voted to endorse Ms. Raimondo by a heavy majority — Ms. Raimondo captured 16 votes while Clay Pell had three and Mayor Angel Tavares finished with one vote.
“We are so proud to be endorsing Gina for governor,” said Chairwoman Mary Alyce Gasbarro. “Gina gets results and she has what it takes to tackle the big challenges facing Rhode Island. She is a tough, courageous, problem solver who will act with urgency to get people back to work, rebuild the middle class and grow the economy in a way that leaves no one behind. Gina will make an extraordinary governor.”
Ms. Raimondo was pleased to hear the news.
“I’m honored to have such strong support from the Barrington Democrats,” said Ms. Raimondo. “Rhode Islanders are struggling right now and I know we can do better. We need a strategy to build on our strengths and get people back to work. Our challenges are too big to continue applying short term fixes and temporary measures. We have to act with urgency and I’m proud to have the Barrington Democrats on my team.”
Other Democratic town committees to endorse Ms. Raimondo for governor are the Foster Democratic Town Committee, the Scituate Democratic Town Committee and the East Greenwich Democratic Town Committee.
