According to reporting at press deadline Tuesday night, Rep. Hearn had 55 percent of the votes cast in Barrington and East Providence. Mr. Diel had 34 percent, and Independent Eugene Saveory had 11 percent.
Mr. Diel, who watched the voting tallies from inside the American Legion building, said he thought all the candidates ran a good, clean race.
“I just want to thank God, my wife, my two children, my campaign manager and the rest of my campaign staff,” Mr. Diel said.
