The Barrington Park and Recreation Commission is scheduled to discuss and possibly vote on a proposed memorial for the Dellefratte family during its meeting tonight, June 27.

The Dellefrattes have asked the town for permission to build a memorial at the corner of Foote Street and Prince’s Hill Avenue — on the Chianese Park property — honoring the different members of the family who have worked for the town’s department of public works.

Some family members attended a council meeting earlier this year and hoped that board would support the measure. Some members of the council questioned the appropriateness of the memorial and also challenged whether the town would pay for such a project; the family had initially requested financial support (upwards of $5,000) from the town.

After some debate, the council sent the project to the town manager for further review. The town manager, Peter DeAngelis, has worked with the family to refine the plans for the memorial, scaling it down in some areas. And tonight, the redesigned memorial will head before the park and recreation commission.

The town manager said in a recent interview he anticipates the family paying for this project, should members of the commission approve the redesign.

The meeting starts at 7 p.m., in the Barrington Public Library board room.
