The southern section of Rumstick Road was hit hard as a large beech tree fell across power lines and left residents in the dark. At about 10 a.m., crews from Davey Tree Expert Company carefully cut branches off a web of wires a couple hundred feet north of the intersection of Vans Lane and Rumstick.
Workers and trucks from National Grid and Verizon waited nearby. Some folks in the area said they were told it could be another six or seven hours before all utilities were restored.
According to Barrington Department of Public Works Director Alan Corvi, trees and branches covered other roads in town after the hard-hitting storm blew through the area on Tuesday. He said DPW workers were on Opechee Drive and Plymouth Drive as well as other roads removing downed limbs. One town over in Warren, people said damage from the storm was so severe that some thought a tornado may have touched down briefly.
