Barrington break-ins connected by bike path

Police are investigating some house-breaks that took place along a stretch of County Road last week — the homes all have back yards that abut the East Bay Bike Path.

At about 3:30 p.m. on Monday, June 30, a County Road resident called police to report a possible break-in. The woman who lives at the home told officers that she had left a door open for a delivery and then decided to take a nap. When she woke up, she noticed some of her personal items inside the house — including a jewelry box — had been moved.

Police officers spoke to one of the neighbors who said he had seen a suspicious person earlier that day. The neighbor said he was just returning from an early morning run when he noticed an older Asian woman riding a bicycle up his driveway. When she spotted him, he said, she turned and pedaled away. The resident later checked his home but could find no evidence that the woman entered the house.

Also on Monday, June 30, police spoke to another County Road resident said he had discovered a few panes of glass at a back door had been shattered. The resident said it also appeared someone had broken part of the basement bulkhead in an effort to gain entrance to the house. Police were able to lift a fingerprint from the glass; it has been sent to the RI State Police crime lab.
