Charlie’s teammate, sophomore Adam Kelly is just a few spots back in sixth place nationally. Adam’s top throw this season is 69 feet, 6 inches.
Following are other top-ranked track and field high school athletes from Rhode Island:
• Central High Carlos Mangum is seventh-ranked, at 69-2.
• Chariho senior Bryce Kelley is ranked fourth U.S. in the boys’ 1,500 meters (4:00.32).
• Maddy Berkson, the Classical High junior, is on two T&F News lists: in the 3,000 meters, she’s ranked fifth in the U.S. with her time of 9:53.34. Berkson’s 800-meter time of 2:12.14 is fourth-ranked, behind Bay View senior (and Cranston resident) Erica Johnson’s No. 3-rated 2:11.57.
• In the girls’ 20-pound weight throw, Classical’s Martha Cooper is rated No. 7 U.S. with a mark of 53-4.50 (16.27).
