At 12:43 a.m. on Saturday, Aug. 17, police and rescue were dispatched to Appian Way after receiving a report of an apparent intoxicated male in the area. Police found a 16-year-old boy on the side of the road who was incoherent and his eyes were rolling back in his head.
The boy could not provide the emergency responders with any information, but an officer reportedly noticed what appeared to be beach sand in the boy’s ear. The officer checked a nearby beach, where he found a pair of sneakers and a cell phone that belonged to the boy.
Using the contacts in the phone, the officer was able to notify the boy’s father. The boy was transported to Hasbro Children’s Hospital for treatment.
On three other occasions earlier this summer, officials have transported local teenagers between the ages of 15 and 17 to area hospitals after the teens downed large amounts of alcohol and became sick.
