EAST PROVIDENCE — For the second time in just about a month, East Providence Police are investigating an armed robbery, the latest having occurred Thursday night, Dec. 20, at the Big Apple Convenience Store on 85 Burgess Avenue.
EPPD Detective Captain Richard Frazier said the incident happened at approximately 7:37 p.m. Two men entered the location wearing dark clothes and with bandanas covering their faces.
One of the perpetrators wielded a gun. Both men went behind the counter, threatened the cashier and demanded money. They eventually fled on foot with an undetermined amount of cash from the register, according to Capt. Frazier.
The incident was captured on the store’s security video camera. Capt. Frazier said investigators are reviewing the tape for clues.
Capt. Frazier said the 25-year-old male store attendant was “shaken up a bit but otherwise unhurt.”
Thursday’s armed robbery comes nearly four weeks to the day an assailant used a gun to rob the Domino’s Pizza parlor located on Pawtucket Avenue, Nov. 24.
Police were called to the scene and were able to arrest the suspect, Justin Thomas, after a brief period of pursuit.
In the wee hours of the next morning, Nov. 25, two East Providence brothers were stabbed during an altercation.
“Another violent crime in East Providence. I don’t know how to explain it,” Capt. Frazier added.
